PLENARY
SESSION
Kicking off the
IOR 2010 Plenary Session will be a Welcome by Dewey Bartlett, then presentations
by Dr. Behrooz Fattahi and Dr. Scott Tinker.

Dr. Behrooz Fattahi, 2010 SPE
president and one of the oil industry’s leading authorities on enhanced oil
recovery.
Dr.
Behrooz Fattahi is the Heavy Oil Development Coordinator at Aera Energy LLC, a
California exploration and production company jointly owned by affiliates of
Shell and ExxonMobil. He began his industry career in 1977 at the Oil Service
Company (OSCO) of Iran/Shell International and worked as a Reservoir Engineer,
Reservoir Engineering Manager, and Team leader for OSCO/Shell International,
Shell Western E&P, Shell Offshore, and Shell affiliate CalResources. Prior to
joining the petroleum industry, he conducted research for the National
Aeronautics and Space Administration and the National Science Foundation and
taught courses in fluid dynamics and solid mechanics at Iowa State University.
He is a past member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics
and American Association of University Professors.
Dr. Fattahi is
the 2010 President of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. He served on the Board
of the Directors of SPE as the Director of the Western North America Region
(2004–2006) and was the Chairman of the SPE Continuing Education Committee
(1999–2001), Chairman of the San Joaquin Valley SPE Section (2001–2002), and a
member of SPE President’s Learning Initiatives Task Force (2002). He also served
as the Executive Editor of the SPE Reservoir Evaluation & Engineering Journal
from 2006 to 2008. Dr. Fattahi holds a PhD in aerospace engineering and a PhD in
mechanical engineering from Iowa State University.

Dr. Scott Tinker,
director of the Bureau of Economic Geology at the University of Texas.
Dr. Tinker is one
of the most dynamic and sought-after speakers on energy issues. He is the
guiding voice and on-air narrator for an exciting new feature-length film
documentary, “The Bridge,” created to educate the public about the transition
from fossil fuels to alternative energies: How long it will take; what it will
look like; what choices will make this transition a smooth and gradual success;
and which good intentions could have the opposite effect. More information about

Scott
W. Tinker is
Director of the Bureau of Economic Geology, the State Geologist of Texas,
Director of the Advanced Energy Consortium, and a Professor holding the Allday
Endowed Chair in the Jackson School of Geosciences at the University of Texas at
Austin. He spent 17 years working in the oil and gas industry in exploration,
production, and research prior to coming to UT in 2000. He is President of the
American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) and Past President of the
Association of American State Geologists. Tinker was a Distinguished Lecturer
for the AAPG (1997), Society of Petroleum Engineers (2002), and Distinguished
Ethics Lecturer for the AAPG (2006-2007), and he won best paper awards in the
AAPG Bulletin and Journal of Sedimentary Research. He holds appointments on the
National Petroleum Council, National Research Council Board of Energy and
Environmental Systems, Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission, and serves on
several private, professional, and academic boards. His passion is building
bridges between academia, industry, and government.
Tinker holds a BS in geology and
business administration from Trinity University, an MS in geological sciences
from the University of Michigan, and a PhD in geological sciences from the
University of Colorado. |

ALL-CONVENTION LUNCHEON
FEATURED SPEAKER
Bob Tippee, editor of the Oil & Gas
Journal and an award-winning veteran oil and gas journalist and commentator.
Bob
Tippee is Editor of Oil & Gas Journal, a weekly trade magazine, and its
web site, Oil & Gas Journal Online. Since joining the Journal in Tulsa in 1977,
he has written on all aspects of the international petroleum industry, with
special interest in economics, energy policy, geophysics, and the Middle East.
His work for the magazine has won awards from the American Business Press, New
York Society of Business Press Editors, Association of Petroleum Writers,
International Association for Energy Economics, and International Association of
Energy Advocates. Tippee became the Journal’s chief editor in January 1999. He
also was Editor-in-Chief of the 1997 through 2001 editions of the Journal’s
annual affiliate, International Petroleum Encyclopedia.
Tippee is the
director of three PennWell Petroleum Group conferences and has written or
cowritten several books on the oil and gas industry. A native of St. Louis,
Missouri, he holds a degree in Journalism from the University of Tulsa and
served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force for four years. |
